Our client is a nonprofit that is a parent-led group empowering parents from under-served communities to demand high-quality schools for their children and to disrupt systematic education inequities in Oakland public schools. They are looking for a Product Manager to join their team who will oversee the product planning and execution throughout the Product Lifecycle. This includes: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing, and other functions to ensure impact, partner growth, and family satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager also ensures that the product supports the company’s overall goals and strategy. The Product Manager will be responsible for managing vendors, developing and executing to a budget, and collaborating with other functions in the organization to align with the 3 to 5-year strategic goals.

This is a flexible hybrid role and our client is based in Oakland, CA. This is a part-time (20 hours/week) contract opportunity.

As a Product Manager, you will:
  • Define the product strategy and roadmap for implementation and future improvements
  • Deliver Market Requirement Documents and Product Requirement Documents with prioritized features and corresponding justification
  • Work with the community and potential partners to understand product needs
  • Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
  • Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
  • Be an expert with respect to the opportunity and competition
  • Act as a leader within the company, keeping leadership and the board appraised of progress, impact, and challenges
  • Work with other communities to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
  • Perform product demos to other communities
  • Set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals
  • Propose an overall budget and manage to budget
  • Brief and train staff as needed

The Product Manager will also:
  • Support the organization's Technical and Data Strategic Planning
  • Support the creation of human capital growth strategies as it relates to technical needs and tools
  • Support the C-Suite team on product, technical, and data-related initiatives
  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer and Operating Officer
  • Travel to Oakland for critical product-related meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Who we’re searching for:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Product Manager
  • Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Experience working with a diverse set of community members and markets
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Experience with Joomla, Google BigQuery, SalesForce, and AI-assisted customer survey tools a nice to have

Pay range:
  • $44-$48/ hour
