UX Design Manager (Hybrid)

We are seeking a talented User Experience Design Manager to join our automotive client’s team. They believe the world of web services and data-driven applications can advise how embedded systems need to evolve. We are working to extend our customers’ user experience in modern portable devices to include their vehicles. 

This is a direct hire hybrid role based in Portland, Oregon. 

DAY TO DAY:

  • Manage, lead, and empower a team of designers, researchers, and animators in their day-to-day activities delivering best-in-class design experiences across our automotive client’s digital products and services

  • Drive team hiring, mentorship, and performance evaluations, supporting and mentoring the team through their growth plans

  • Work with the Portland management team to build site objectives, align joint efforts, and drive teamwork both internally and within all our automotive client’s engineering offices

  • Collaborate with offices across the world to ensure that all work is aligned and ready to integrate into our automotive client’s products and user experiences

  • Build and maintain engagements with the wider business for projects and products through stakeholder management

  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies, interface modalities, and designs from an automotive context and introduce them to our global business

  • Initiate new projects and products, setting the stage for scale-out of processes, design, and tools to be applied across the our automotive client’s software development

  • Mentor and advise designers on the best practices, and drive their adoption across the organization

  • Lead and influence design practices and outputs in the our automotive client’s digital domain

  • Foster a high performance, team-oriented culture by motivating, inspiring, mentoring, and challenging colleagues to identify and implement high quality, innovative solutions

  • Other duties as assigned

WE’D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience within User Experience Design, User Experience Research, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field

  • 2+ years managing User Experience/Design teams in Engineering business units

  • Demonstrated experience in leading the delivery of complex user experience designs or design systems required

  • Experience working with internal partner development teams

  • Experience working with outside suppliers/vendors strongly desirable

  • Demonstrated success in leading user experience design and contributing to product development from concept to successful launch/implementation in large-scale software development environment

  • Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and modern design standards

  • Excellent collaboration, observational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills alongside the desire and ability to see things from multiple perspectives

  • You must be resourceful, conscientious, and self-motivated

  • You must be capable of building and maintaining strong relationships while advocating for meaningful improvements to our customer experiences
