Direct Hire Senior Mobile Software Engineer, Android

Salary Range $80,000 to $140,000 DOE

Job Description

We are a mission-based start-up trying to change how we interact with Social Media Technologies.

The Senior Mobile Software Engineer, Android, is one of several curious and collaborative technologists responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining our core product.

The ideal candidate loves to build software for mobile devices, and has extensive experience working with cross-functional teams including other software engineers, testers, designers, product managers, et al.

Your team members will be insanely great, and we do our exponentially better work together when we listen to each other and share candidly--and respectfully!

We believe that cross-platform toolkits, languages, and IDEs for mobile devices have finally reached the zenith where the pros outweigh the cons for small teams.

As such, our principle development toolset for mobile is Flutter, so experience working with Flutter, React Native, or another reactive UI toolkit is a huge bonus.

While a successful team member need not have prior experience with Flutter or Dart, knowledge of either the native Android toolset + Kotlin, and you should be a master of learning new tools to get the job done regardless.

Nearly all robust, modern software applications rely on centralized cloud-based services or web applications to complement the distributed mobile clients and enhance functionality.

We are no different, and so experience interfacing with a cloud-based server API or similar is required.

Google Firebase is the principal tool we use for server-side API requests, database interaction, authentication, ML interfaces, cloud storage, crash tracking, performance monitoring, product analytics, A/B testing, and Push Notifications, so any experience with the platform earns major bonus points.

Experience working with NoSQL databases such as Firebase’s Cloud Firestore service is a bonus, as is experience working with machine learning systems such as TensorFlow or Firebase’s ML Kit. Experience with other holistic service-based architectures--e.g. AWS--is also a bonus.

On the day-to-day, we use Git for code commits and GitHub for source control. Pull Requests on GitHub are our primary platform for code review, and we use branch protection features on GitHub to ensure unit tests pass (and have adequate coverage) before passing the code to our build system. Experience with modern mobile app deployment tools is crucial (e.g. the Play Store, fastlane, CircleCI, etc).

The Senior Mobile Software Engineer, Android, reports to the Head of Engineering. The role requires at least five years of experience on a team building production mobile software with a server-client relationship.
